Nowadays, there are many printing techniques available. Each printing technique has been adjusted to a specific need; businesses can choose the printing style that best highlights their products or services. For those who are new to printing techniques, we will focus on sublimation printing today.

What is sublimation Printing?

Sublimation printing is the transfer of dyes onto an object such as paper, ceramic, aluminum or polyester fabric. It is a dye sublimation technique that ink goes from a solid to a gas without passing through the liquid state and then permanently bonds with the products. This results in bright, high-quality, and long-lasting prints.

Polyester Fabric for Sublimation Printing

Although polyester fabric is the most typical choice for this special technique, polyester blends are also available on the market. Blends with other synthetic fibers, such as nylon or spandex, can provide additional stretch, comfort, and durability while remaining sublimation ink compatible.

  • Sublimation compatibility : A structure of Polyester fibers allows them to bond effectively with the sublimation inks.
  • Color vibrancy : Polyester fabric offers a smooth, non-absorbent surface that helps sublimated prints retain their color vibrancy and sharpness.
  • Durability : Sublimated prints on polyester fabric are extremely long-lasting and resistant to fading, cracking, or peeling. When compared to surface-applied printing processes, the ink becomes a part of the fabric, making it more resistant to wear and washing.
  • Moisture management : Polyester fabric keeps these moisture-wicking characteristics, keeping its moisture management great.

The Process

The process begins with printing images on paper with sublimation inks, and the most important thing about this process is the specific ink. The next step is to iron the printed paper over the fabric using heat or use a hot press to transfer the ink from the paper to the fabric, heat to 200 degrees. This causes the sublimation ink to bond to the fabric on a molecular level.
